Among all the skincare products on the market today, body lotion is one of the least popular ones, which is often perplexing to experts. Find out why you should include body lotion into your daily skincare routine in this article!
Most of us use face skin cream, hand and foot cream every day or even multiple times a day, but forget that our bodies also require daily moisturizing. In the end, we don’t use body lotion, which would otherwise restore the skin lipid balance and increase skin hydration.
How does body lotion work?
Body lotion gives the skin elasticity and relieves it of discomfort, such as a dry, flaky feeling. This is the reason why the texture of the lotion is as it is – less dense and fatty, compared to your hand cream, for example. Because it’s so light, it reaches the deeper epidermis layers more easily.
What are the types of body lotions?
There are not only moisturizing lotions but also perfumed, all-purpose, anti-cellulite, soothing ones, etc.
The base of the lotion can be water, oil, or alcohol. Depending on your skin type, you will select one of them. For example, those with dry skin should avoid alcohol-based lotions and use moisturizing ones instead.
Nourishing lotions are ideal for oily skin. In winter for this type of skin, it is better to choose means on an oil basis, in summer it is acceptable to use nourishing lotions on alcohol. In the summer, oily skin needs antibacterial lotions (for example, with aloe vera). For normal and combination skin, use all-purpose lotions.
As a rule, body lotions contain certain natural components or oils: jojoba oil, cocoa butter, aloe vera, almond oil, shea butter, providing the skin with optimal care and comfort.
How to apply skin lotion correctly?
Before applying the product for the first time, test it on a small part of your skin to make sure you don’t develop an allergy. Allergens could be natural oils, fragrances, and many other ingredients. Apply it on your wrist and wait for 15-20 minutes. If there’s no allergic reaction, you may start using it regularly.
It’s better to apply the lotion after taking the shower. Don’t rinse it with water. It works only before your next contact with water. Thus, you’d need to apply it every time you take a shower or bath.
Apply the lotion in a circular motion. Try to rub it into your skin only with the pads of your fingers, without stretching the skin.
Don’t use too much of the product. As with many other things, quality (regularity) is better than quantity. So, apply as much product as your skin can absorb. If you see that the product remains on the surface, use a little less of it next time.
Benefits of using body lotion daily
Let’s now have a look at the benefits of applying body lotion daily, apart from the fact that it moisturizes your skin.
It relaxes
If you’re too lazy to use lotion after each shower, think of it as of a kind of meditation. While applying, relax and try not to think about anything bothering you.
It smells good
Mixing different scents is often not a good idea. If your fragrance and body lotion smell too differently, in the end, you won’t probably like the result. Use a lotion of the same brand as your favorite fragrance and enjoy the scent even more!
It feels good on the skin and in general
When applying skincare products, you do something good for yourself. And taking care of yourself makes you feel better in general! Also, the skin feels better and softer.
It makes your skin shimmer and glow
Your skin not only feels better but also looks softer and younger. In the summer, before going outside in shorts, apply some body lotion on your legs and enjoy the difference!
