Tips for Ridding Coats and Pullovers of Fuzzy Pillings

In some parts of the world, April weather was almost summer-like, somewhere it turned out to be quite severe, but it’s finally time now to put warm things on the farthest shelf wherever you are! But before that you need to take care of them. This means to wash them and get rid of fuzzy pillings.

Clothing with pillings looks very untidy. You can even look like a homeless person. Depending on the composition of the fabric, clothes are coated with them at different speeds. But it happens literally after 2-3 washings. We tell you how to remove the pillings at home, without dry cleaning.

A tool to remove pillings

This is the most modern way, and the simplest one – to remove fuzzy pillings at the first glance. You can order such a tool on different sites. The most important thing is not to be greedy: the price matters even here. Cheap appliances will be small and weak and are unlikely to master at least part of the coat – the wool will clog between the blades (which should be sharpened well) and the protective cap.

Well, if you don’t want to wait for delivery (or spend your money), try to remove the pillings with a few “old-fashioned” methods.

Razor

This method is the most famous one. But here there are some peculiarities: firstly, the razor should be the most ordinary one (without the softening pads with gel, for example). Secondly – it should not be perfectly sharp. The device can easily remove the excessive pillings and also damage the fabric. You need to iron the fabric before cleaning, so that there are no unnecessary creases. Nevertheless, it is better not to take risks and clean the most expensive things (spiritually or materially) in another way.

Dried bread

This great lifehack was used by our great-grandmothers. Everything is simple: we dry a slice of porous bread and carefully move it over the surface that needs removing pillings. Then it remains only to clean the thing from bread crumbs, which is quite simple.

Toothbrush

The methods above are hardly suitable for things from mohair (or similar in appearance) – together with the pillings, you can easily cut off the desired fluffiness. A stiff toothbrush can help to scratch along the fibers. Due to the small size, the surface will have to be processed a little longer, but after that the thing will look new.

Velcro strips

We are not talking about scotch tape or a sticky roller from cat hair – they will help only with the thinnest fabrics. But the coarse part of the Velcro can be called heavy artillery. In order not to make puffs, you do not need to scratch the fabric with Velcro – just apply it to places with pillings and carefully clean them. Silk and lace should not be cleaned this way, but coats are a great option.
